The First Rumour Post – New Macbooks/Macbook Pros

So new Macbooks and Pros are coming out…

I think

They will be aluminium – a greener Apple
Firewire 400 may well be dropped – 800 is faster and more popular (wonder if any genius’ll make an adapter between the 2?)
AppleInsider’s photos are at least somewhat correct; the Macbook Pro’s keyboard may turn out to be like the current Macbooks
Ethernet remains (no duh)

About the Macbooks

All aluminium
Firewire 400 is on its way out (and 800 will not replace it)
There will be no matte screen (there hasn’t even been speculation about that, so don’t even think about it)
There will be no glass trackpad (think of how people use Macbooks. Portability. Glass trackpad? Break in a couple months)
Optical drive will remain where it is
All audio ports will remain the same
Kensington lock remains
Mini-DVI remains

About the Macbook Pros

Firewire 400 will be gone
Firewire 800 will remain
ExpressCard remains (one of the strong points of a MBP – no way they’d cut it that soon)
All I/O ports will be moved to the left, to make space for the optical drive, which, according to AppleInsider, will be put on the side. Kensington lock goes there too
USB – there’ll still be 2 of them
Both audio ports will definitely remain
DVI may be replaced with Mini-DVI – while this might be true, it doesn’t seem sensible. Next to the ExpressCard slot, there seems to be enough space to fit a DVI port in there.

The Mystery Port

It doesn’t seem Apple-ish to put something so new and untested in a pro-level laptop. While rumours of The Brick have been flying around, I think that if The Brick is something that needs an I/O port, this may well be the proprietary port specially designed for it.

More on the Glass Trackpad

If the glass trackpads are true, will Apple build a tiny touch-screen monitor into it, something like the iPhone screen? Then again, what about battery life? You can only put so much battery into a device before it becomes unmanageable in terms of weight. The Macbook Pro is almost at 7 lbs, how much further can they push the weight before it becomes a semi-desktop? Will they put shortcut buttons onto the trackpad, if it really does have a built-in display?

I think with batteries advancing at the rate they are, Apple might be able to squeeze a glass trackpad in there with built in display, with the option to turn it off completely.
As for the shortcut buttons, there would be no physical response if you accidentally pressed one (just how much space have you got on that trackpad anyway). But knowing Apple, they might just find some insane way to pull it off as usual (eg how the hell did the Macbook Air get so thin?)
Then again, the weight of glass on a 6 lb. computer…3 inches of glass might not seem a lot but when the need for durability is added, it could add a noticeable amount of weight to the computer.
If they put a glass trackpad on, what will the trackpad button look like?

That’s all I can think of for now.

Final note – if there really is a one-button release for the battery/hard drive enclosure, modders rejoice.

I found a plugin for Aperture that allows me to upload pictures to Facebook straight from it.

I read loads of articles about hair care and skin care =O

Things I learnt – Flickr is not something I like. Google doesn’t give us enough space. My internet is very slow.

Things I learnt from WikiHow – To get shiny hair, rinse with warm water, wash, and rinse off with cold water, do not blow dry. Don’t use shampoo more than 2x a week. Use silk pillow cases to keep the moisture in the hair. Don’t make your eyes look half dead if you want to look good. Dandruff is not a good thing (didn’t learn that from WikiHow, just thought it’d be good to mention since all of this is hair related). It’s possible to seduce people just with your eyes (oO). Oh and don’t blow dry your hair, you can burn it. Literally. But no fire or smoke (sadly).

Other things I learnt – Water diets are good (drink any HEALTHY liquids, only take solids at dinner. So you basically cut down to 1 meal a day); tried it today and it worked nicely. Gonna see if i can keep it up all through the school year (wow I”ll be underweight by then. Wait, I already am…)

Using characters that Linux can recognise is a pain. Because I have to type … (3 periods [no not period periods, full stop periods idiot]) instead of … (3 full stop periods in 1. Opt + ; [semicolon])

I got the water diet thing from Steph.

My mom is not such a cheapo if I ask nicely. She does however mind spending 10k on a mic (it’s not that expensive compared to some). Nor does she like spending 20k on computer hardware. I mean, what’s wrong with that? Some people have million USD media setups at home. Quoting someone from a podcast [I KNOW HE'S A FRIEND OF LEO'S I JUST CAN"T REMEMBER WHO IT IS. ARGHHHH] – “The thing is, the whole setup only cost 100 grand”

Kensington makes way better trackballs than Logitech does. Seriously.

Microsoft makes more functional but ugly mice than Apple does.

Apple makes sexy but useless and unergonomic mice. Good concept though.

I’m actually deciding to quit drinking coke that much. Only drink it when going out for dinner, and very occasionally. I’ll try one cup a day for now…then eventually it’ll be NONE.

For the ungeeks who don’t know what Aperture is, it’s like Picasa, just wayyy sexier, faster, and more nostalgic in every way (All the Pro Apps have the colour scheme of NEXTSTEP, Steve Jobs’ take on making UNIX more functional)

Apple’s dictionary said that ungeek was a typo, and suggested ungeeky instead. Well so be it, ungeeky’s! (Dictionary didn’t recognise that either)

I love my new condenser mic. Now I just need a pop filter, a smaller and non-tele condenser, a good ribbon mic and a Heil PR-20 PEARL PINK EDITION! THEY”RE SO CUTE!, a few mic stands, oh and a bigger room…16TB RAIDed array [look, if you don't know what it is, go search it up. I never said I cared for every single human/alien on Planet Earth to understand! Not that those fortunate enough to live in Pluto would either]

Ooh another NTC – just take the flash drive out of a 32 GB iPod Touch and put it in the squeeker – I think they use the same SSDs!

This is like the longest blog post ever. My longest diary entry is over 3000 words. My wrist was starting to feel like it would get cramps so I stopped there. Still got loads to write, especially when recalling history all the way back from Year 3, progressively till now, and the events happening.

So now I have 1 USB mouse (Apple Mighty Mouse, wired), 1 PS/2 mouse (ancient Microsoft one, operating on a roller ball), 1 Logitech Marble Trackball (almost 3 years old, has been in CONTINUOUS, NON STOP use ever since I got it!) and a 2 day old Kensington Expert Trackball.

Logitech’s trackballs are so much smaller than the Kensington ones. As in, Logitech’s are the size of a golf ball, Kensington’s are the size of a cricket ball. Almost!

How is it that the dictionary recognises ‘Logitech’, but not ‘Logitech’s’?

I have nothing more to write – only that I wish I could create a slideshow for the history of my time at QBS (pity we didn’t use cameras all the time, they probably wouldn’t be allowed anyway, we were too young), but…I might be able to do it for this school, it’ll just be really hard.

The Evaluation of A Very Disciplined and Bright Young Carrot

1. I enjoyed digital media this year, as we learned many new things, using programs like Final Cut Pro, a bit how the media industry is like, and especially about filming techniques, eg. it’s a bit riskier using natural voicing, and it would be better to do a voice over, as natural sounds may drown the voice out… Also I find that it is easier to use one OS to do all our editing/filming, because once we tried to put a Windows movie file, and Mac file ‘together’…of course that didn’t work!

3. Yes we use our laptops a lot in all subjects..

4. Yep, I’m sure I could use them confidently, and explain how to use it to a peson who has never used these programs before.

5. I talked to another classmate to come up with a story/timeline for the wiki, but apart from that, I have not done really anything on the wetpaint site. For other projects, I thought it was rather irritating to work in groups, because sometimes I disagreed with my team’s ideas, or I felt that they didn’t get the concept, but they thought it was good, and they didn’t want to change anything, so I could only follow along. Sometimes, one of our team members were ‘busy’ for the whole week, and so the rest of the team had to do all the work………

6. In Digital Media, I think the major difference was that we learned about how media is influenced or is influencing, not just about things like how to use Garage Band, iMovie, etc. because we would have picked it up in our projects in other school subjects anyway.

Thanks Carisse. I agree with your last point but all too often students come through to me in GCSE classes and they haven’t learnt essential skills and applications. That is why it is important to make sure that they are taught at some point during KS3. You strike me as being a very disciplined and bright young woman who has a very exciting future. I hope to see you again for GCSE Media Studies, when I promise you will have lots of opportunities for individual projects.

I know you blocked me.  Don’t assume I don’t have ways of finding out.  It’s not like I care much anyway, why would I?  After all, if you don’t care about me, why should I care about you?

Sometimes I think it would’ve been better if we’d never started talking in the first place.  All that’s come of this is that you told me some secrets.

I used to miss you.  I used to be sad about your blocking me.  But I’ve decided that I could care less.  And yes I did block you too.

I wish you were never in my life. I just realised how much time I wasted, talking to you about pointless stuff. Your pointless stuff. I used to care so much and now I really couldn’t care less. If all you want is attention to yourself then go ahead. I’m not going to fall for it.
